MAY 26TH, 2019
We just wrapped up our first Activity Check! As we move forward, the Fall Festival event will be up a while longer. Anticipate some exciting changes coming soon. Thanks for sticking with us!
If you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions for the site, don't be afraid to send any of that to Fox or Lyro. We're always improving!
Professor Barnes has assigned your partners for today's exercise. Your assignment, as an introduction to Double Battles as a whole, is to knock the opponents' Pokemon unconscious by any means necessary. [break][break] Your battle takes place on a grassy field, roughly the size of a regulation tennis court. The boundaries are clearly marked on the ground in chalk. Trainers are not to step onto the battlefield for any reason, nor are Pokemon to step out. If a Pokemon is knocked out of the battlefield, and does not return within 5 seconds, they are disqualified. The wind is an unusual 20MPH, causing small trees to sway and clothing to be whipped about. The sky is lightly overcast. [break][break]
NOTES
[attr="class","eapcon2"] Participants are expected to abide by all Sanctioned Battle Rules. Participants are not allowed to use any Moves during the first posting round. There will be no ref post to start the battle. [break][break] The posting order is as follows:[break][break] 1. Zernebog Romanov [break] 2. Dahlia Lancaster [break] 3. jared vega [break] 4. Frederick Ferdinand [break]

Zernebog strode over towards his side of the stadium, each step quiet amongst the wind's soft howling. His dark red coat clung snugly to his arms and shoulders, while the tail of it flared behind him, fluttering in the breeze. His hair was pushed back further than usual, short white strands swaying in the breeze.[break][break]
Beside him, Hyperion walked along proudly despite the strong winds. The flame on his tail danced with the wind but showed no sign of flickering away. In fact, it seemed to... devour the wind eagerly if one looked closely. There was a small smile on his maw as he looked around curiously at the grassy fields.[break][break]
He ran a hand through his hair and waited where he was with Hyperion. He'd looked at his watch right before he'd arrived, and he was early. Early enough in fact that he was the first one here. He was waiting for three others - a fellow Pearl classmate and two people from Diamond, one of which was going to be his partner for the battle.[break][break]
Going into a doubles battle with a randomly-picked partner from another house was... definitely interesting to say the least. However, he was up for the challenge as long as the guy was cooperative and had a decent head on his shoulders.
"Hmmm...." Now when were they going to get here? It was nice and chilly, but he didn't want to wait too long even in this pleasant breezy weather.[break][break]

There would be no further delay for Dahlia's entrance.
A black pea coat, tightly woven to her as she pulled her beret tight to keep the wind from whipping her hair too quickly and disastrously. Long hair was a burden in weather like this, and it was with that huff in her mood that she made a slow approach to the field.
"A wonderful assignment. Truly. Random selection is excellent as always," a touch of poison to her voice as she made her way to the designated trainer area. A single pokeball rest in her left hand; the black and red designs of a luxury ball that housed her prized partner. No need to release him until now; with a simple click, the Budew fell in a shower of energy upon the turf and stood at attention... for all of a few moments.
Aramis spotted the Charmander and shivered, a kind of motion that wasn't due to wind chill. With that timid thought in mind he looked to Dahlia, then back to the Charmander, then to Dahlia... was this really the kind of day he was going to have? Dahlia waved a hand motion at him to remain still as she gave a polite wave to Zernebog.
he gives his partner a friendly pat on the back as he takes his place in the arena. his movements were lively, and his actions suggested he overdosed in coffee this morning. his electrike followed after him, its blue fur glistening much more than normal after a thorough brushing that jared gave it.
"congrats! you got paired with me!"
the electric-type stood proudly. it's expression was cold, which was fitting the uncomfortable weather they were having. eyes were ready and serious, which contrasted jared's aura.
the hoodie he wore didn't do much against the cold. strong winds whipped the tied up hair wildly, although jared did not seem to mind much. his eyes were trained on the other side of the field, awaiting for their opponents to show up and get the battle started.
he has a charmander and an electrike on their side, while the other has a budew. type-wise, they were in the advantage. the only deal breaker would be if the pokemon the other guy would bring had a move effective against both of them. a smirk on his expression showed his confidence about the match.
it wouldn't be fit for him to brag with the advantage, and so he kept himself from doing it. he wanted to ascertain his dominance with friendly banter, perhaps to kill the serious mood lingering in the air as well, but doing so was of bad taste with how the things presented in front of him were currently are.

[attr="class","wassup1dangertxt"] The time had come for Frederick to take part in his very first sanctioned battle as a student here at SEA. It was sure to be an interesting experience, something that eh sought to learn from whether he walked away the victor or not. His hands move to tug on his suit coat, folding it over on the front to button it closed as the wind started to whip around him. The windchill was intense, as well as something he would have to account for in the coming battle. Tiny was already being affected by it, the wind causing his usually stiff ears to bend slightly with the wind. Yet he would still keep them perked up and alert, pointing them toward the battlefield as they approached. It seemed that he would be the last to arrive, albeit by a narrow margin.[break][break]
Lips curled into a pleased smile as he caught sight of the fashionably dressed woman that was to be his teammate, quickly recognizing her before she could turn to greet him. His shoulders shook slightly as the dark skinned man silently laughed to himself, the tone of her voice making it clear that she wasn't feeling too pleased about the situation. "Don't be too upset now, my dear. As sad as this partnership may be for you, I for one am honored to fight alongside you." He offered the sliver haired breeder a warm smile as he moved to place his hands behind his back, seeming to maintain a casual air about him as the battle drew near.[break][break]
Black gaze would turn to the other side of the field, his eyes quickly jumping between their opponents and their pokemon. An electric type and a fire type. Tiny should perform well in this match up, but there was a bit of concern for his partner's budew. "Tiny, keep yourself between your teammate and that charmander." With a soft grunt of acknowledgement Tiny moved to take his place on the battlefield, positioning himself closely to the shivering bud. He'd shoot a quick glance toward his teammate, letting out another rough grunt of encouragement. It was more of a 'get behind me and get your shit together' than a 'you've got this', but it was the most Tiny was willing to offer. The pins that covered his body began to bristle as his intense narrow gaze locked on to his opponents, flicking between each one with his ears turned in their direction.

Of course they'd pair him up with the cheeriest one... or the one who chugged the most coffee this morning. Well, at least someone was going to double up on the enthusiasm for the both of them.[break][break]
"I'll take that as a good sign." He remarked dryly, a hint of a smirk on his face.[break][break]
Hm, at least the odds looked fairly even with that little Budew and a male Nidoran on the opposing side of the field and a Charmander and Electrike on theirs. He didn't know if that tiny purple ball of spikes had anything for the both of them - but it was best to err on the side of caution nonetheless. Besides, it seemed confident enough to try and protect the little plant from Hyperion.[break][break]
Since they were all gathered, Zernebog allowed himself a brief grin. "We're all here, so... let's have a jolly good time, shall we?"[break][break]
At those words, Hyperion began to dart around the battlefield to begin closing in, looking for a good angle to get close while staying within the bounded line as much as possible. His movements were powerful and brazen, but almost as erratic as it was majestic. The tips of his claws looked almost gleaming as they left traces of white in the air. These white traces formed a circle facing the two opposing pokemon....[break][break]
...and the circle suddenly expanded as Hyperion made a whipping motion with his tail to end his dance at a distance from them. There was a muted rumble that suddenly became much louder as the battlefield was flooded with a massive torrent of rocks, mud, and debris that intended to try and swallow both enemy combatants whole and crush them underneath.[break][break]

Frederick was right; this was at least a partnership with someone agreeable.
Dahlia straightened her posture and brushed hair past her shoulder, staring down the other two students. As compared to their civility, the Zernebog and Jared teamup seemed much more... jovial, lackadaisy, typical even. On paper, it all seemed like they had the ball and advantage in their court. That was fine by her; victory wasn't the goal here.
She simply wanted to display that Aramis - and by extension, her - were worth consideration and recognition. Well-bred Pokemon were just as strong, if not stronger, than well-trained Pokemon. She was going to have to build her brand somehow, and these battles might as well be it.
Focus on the battle, Dahlia - Aramis shuffled behind Tiny, like a few tiny football players lining up. He was intimidated by all three Pokemon on the field, but managed to offer a noise of acknowledgement and focused up, blooms slowly uncurling. This would follow up with Zerne's start of the fight and the Charmander charging forward! Oh no, that was fast. Aramis quivered slightly when-
"Aramis, Sunny Day and Sludge Bomb." A clap on each command, and Aramis seemed to shake and sputter as a glowing ball of bright white energy left his form and floated up, up, up- and then seemed to expand, turning into a miniature sun-source above them all. He might even have been proud of this one as his body swelled with energy and nutrients, if it wasnt for the fact his body was pummeled with rocks afterwards.
Rolling to the side seemed to have helped a bit, but he still showed the clear signs of battle damage and a dusty residue. Waddling upright and indignant over this insult to his form, he seemed to puff up a bit before taking aim and firing off a spitty glob of gross black gunk at the Elektrike, trying to nail the next combatant and hoping Tiny would do... something!
the charmander moves sprightly. jared could tell that the pokemon was not a loser by any means. this was good, ideal for the most part. he can work with this.
he wasn't sure about the nidoran, but he can definitely get around the budew.
"too slow!"
the electrike ran in an opposite direction of the charmander, circling the two other pokemon as well. he opens up with magnet rise to reposition himself away from the sludge bomb's trajectory as well as to get to a spot where the tailwind blows from behind him. the rise from the ground was very minimal, but the move was used to throw his own body to a direction rather than lift himself anyways.
"burn!"
a grin would appear on his expression as the trainer watched his pokemon produce flames from his maw.
flamethrower was a move he wouldn't regret teaching his electrike. a blazing inferno would travel from the electrike's position to where the budew was, the combination of the makeshift sun and the winds granting the flames enough fuel to set almost everything ablaze.
"sunny day against a fire-type? you're bold, miss!" he questions, pure curiosity lacing his tone despite the arrogant nature of his choice of words.

[attr="class","wassup1dangertxt"] He didn't get much of a response from his teammate, but the adjustments she made to her posture made it clear that she didn't intend to dwell on her complaints. Whether she agreed with him or was simply putting on airs he wasn't quite sure, but he would still offer her a nod of acknowledgement before turning to focus on the battle at hand. There was no need for words between the two. There was no time to strategize and they were already well enough acquainted. It had been a long time since he had battled with a partner, which made what was to come all the more exciting. You could learn a lot about a person from fighting alongside them, though he was curious if the breeder would be so attentive to such things. It would be foolish to assume that someone knowledgeable in the ways of pokemon was automatically a skilled battler.[break][break]
Her initial orders prompted him to raise his brows as he shot a quick glance between the woman and her pokemon. A risky maneuver, but he had to hope she knew what she was doing. Perhaps she was attempting to bait out a fire type attack and counter with a water sport, reducing the incoming attack's effectiveness and placing all the advantages in her favor. Besides he couldn't waste too much time pondering his teammate's strategies when he had his own pokemon to command. "Cover the field." Upon receiving his order Tiny would violently shake his body as he caused the Toxic Spikes covering his body to shoot out in all directions.[break][break]
The majority of the battlefield would become covered in poison needles, threatening to dig into the feet of the opposition. Given the size of the battlefield the coverage wasn't perfect, but it was considerable. The opposition would have to be careful if they wanted to avoid becoming infected with the toxins contained in these barbs, which he hoped would slow their assault long enough for Aramis to get a bit of cover. The opposition's assault was hard and fast, each one taking advantage of their speed to close the gap and make the first move. It was decision making time. Would he deal with the immediate threat of the flames being spewed at his teammate, or deal with the looming threat of the fire type that was bound to take advantage of the heat in a potentially more devastating manner.[break][break]
"Drill the Charmander." Tiny would shoot a quick glance toward Aramis as he sprinted toward that Charmander, giving him a quick snort of caution before bounding off toward the stone slinging lizard. As the rocks started to fall the nidoran would kick off the ground at an angle, sending him into a rapid spin as he continued to propel himself forward horn first. The stones would collide with his body only to be batted away by the violent rotation of his body. If the attack had any effect on the pokemon which they did there were no signs of it as he continued forward. The living drill would pursue it's target, refusing to be slowed down by whatever was thrown his way. Meanwhile Frederick would offer an apologetic smile to Dahlia, his expression softening slightly. "I'm afraid a more aggressive defense will be needed to keep your dear Aramis safe. I trust you understand this."

The battlefield erupted into chaos. Shit was flying everywhere - from rocks to spikes to sludge to flames. It was almost like music to Zernebog's ears - the fact that the woman used Sunny Day fully knowing Hyperion was there was a treat as well. And amusingly enough, the Electrike also had flamethrower.[break][break]
Still, he didn't have time to marvel - not when there was now a tiny spinning drill piercing through Hyperion's wave of rocks to try and get to him. He had a sinking feeling he knew what that move was and he didn't want Hyperion to get hit by that, so there was a couple of options he could do.[break][break]
And he knew just the one. "Third form!"[break][break]
Hyperion grinned wickedly as he switched tempo easily danced over his own rocks, avoiding the spikes as he... ran forward at the Nidoran? It seemed a foolhardy approach, but the energy and vigor pumping in his muscles allowed him to be swift enough to jump upwards an impressive distance in a fancy twirl over the spinning purple missile. The twirl formed another circle of light underneath his feet as the missile passed under him.[break][break]
This circle of light quickly unleashed another torrent of rocks. There seemed to be even more than before as it began to flood the field once more in two flows. One flow was headed towards the back of the Nidoran, and the other one was headed towards the Budew. There was a small third though that he landed on and used to surf himself around in style closer to the Budew and his partner Electrike, while watching all the while as the spikes created on the ground were crushed by the new onslaught of debris.[break][break]

Dahlia understood enough of the reasoning behind Fred's decisions;
even if she didn't fully understand the intricacies of battle. While she had hoped to take sole advantage of the sun's rays - Fire-typing be damned - she didn't expect the Elektrike to be capable of abusing it. Dahlia let out a tch and barked out with "Energy Ball!", but by the time the words had left her mouth the results had already finished up.
In that fanning blast of flames, Aramis was sucked into the heat and forced to stumble to the side to get out of the worst of it. He had not taken too well to the assault, and it was perhaps more obvious that it hurt under this glaring sun. How were the rest of them capable of moving and reacting so quickly? It was even clear that many of them didn't have to issue exact orders...
Dahlia regrouped enough of her thoughts for the second wave of rocks. "Aramis, Energy Ball!" Aimed right at the incoming cascade, the Budew let loose its explosive energy package and mitigated the attack with the eruption. The initial threat scattered into dodge-able debris, it was time to take care of that dog. Aramis had but a moment to shiver and shake in place before his lady would issue another command.
"Don't worry, Frederick. I'm prepared to hold my own. Aramis, Sleep Powder the Elektrike!" The command was followed up with a dramatic point, said loudly and proudly for all to hear. The Budew took that as its shot to rush closer towards the Elektrike, waiting for the wind to shift slightly before a hop and a spin - and with its buds spreading, a sickening golden pollen filled the air and rushed about. Should any of the battle participants breathe it in, they'd find energy and alertness hard to come by if they didn't outright fall asleep!
there was a choice to burn the powder, as well as many other options, but with the charmander surfing straight at him, also at risk of getting hit with the sleep powder, it only cemented the use of the safest one out of the bunch.
"get the char in there with you! protect!"
a barrier was erected around electrike, meeting the charmander as he glided into his area of influence and letting the fire-type within his safety bubble. the winds were unpredictable, and the pollen could be carried anywhere by it, making a risk that it could fly towards the charmander. while jared would have wanted to win two against one, he wanted everyone to know how nice of a partner he was.
the protect would dissipate once the sleep powder proves ineffective. only then did jared bark another order to his electrike.
"now do the thing where you just raze everything!"
if the electrike could scoff with flames coming out of its mouth, it would. its eyes would roll as his trainer cheered for further chaos, but would nonetheless comply unconditionally.
the electrike pushed itself to drift in a circle around the budew and the nidoran, still levitating above the ground to ignore both friction, the debris from rock slide and the toxic spikes. it would entrust its movements to the magnetic force entirely, while its efforts were solely on the breath of flames it would spew towards the opposing duo, aiming to hit them on every angle.

[attr="class","wassup1dangertxt"] So, the lizard and his trainer chose to charge head first into the attack? A foolish decision that even a wild untrained charmander wouldn't make, which meant they were up to something. Frederick's calm but firm voice would ring out again, the smile on his face audible in his words as he spoke to his pokemon. "Ready..." He watched the opposing pokemon closely, waiting for it to shift in any way that would betray it's action. The way it danced as it managed to quickly navigate around the toxic spikes spread across the landscape was impressive, but not enough to trick the aspiring ranger's eyes into giving a false call. The moment it went airborne Frederick would raise his voice once more, rushing the command out to ensure his teammate could react in time. "Transition."[break][break]
The moment the words left his mouth the nidoran would press himself into the ground, suddenly gaining traction. This traction would cause his charge to suddenly shift to the right as he started to roll along the ground, pulling him away from the rock slide before the boulders could materialize above him. It was a shame that he had to abandon his previous attack to do this, but he couldn't allow his opponent to gain too much momentum. It would have been shameful to allow his pokemon to receive two direct hits before managing to land even one himself. "Spike and reposition." In response to his order Tiny would start to release his Toxic Spikes once more, the needles shooting out rapidly as his fast paced rolling added momentum to their trajectory. The debris that covered his previous spikes would become coated in the spines, the needles now much more thoroughly covering the rest of the battlefield as well.[break][break]
The two opponents had positioned themselves near each other, forming a united front as they protected themselves from the sleep powder. This would prove to be a boon for the toxic rodent, as the barrier would force that charmander to remain stationary until the spores faded. During this time the nidoran would use his momentum to roll around and approach the lizard from the side, charging straight toward him. "Go for it." The moment the barrier dissipated his speed would increase, closing the distance between them as quickly as he could while turning to pursue him whichever way he would go. [break][break]
Should he manage to catch up to his target he would suddenly bounce off the ground, putting all of the force he built up into a single vertical Rolling Kick aimed at the top of the opponent's head. The positioning would also serve to protect him from the electrike's wide spray, as he would have to risk hurting his teammate due to their close proximity. Of course it didn't matter if the canine was willing to make that sacrifice, as the spikey little monster was ready to endure whatever came his way to ensure he landed this blow to his opponent. As all this unfolded Frederick would slide his thumbs behind his suspenders, his amused smile gaining some strength as his tone softened to address his partner. "I'm glad to hear that you are prepared. I simply hope that Aramis is as well."

Zernebog's lips pressed together in a little bit of worry and more than a little irritation - he'd expected something akin to that stunt from the growing strong budder over there though he didn't quite exppect the Nidoran to be able to stop spinning on a dime and be able to rush away so quickly. He could've done something there, but events happened too fast and the frozen momentum from the Protect was... inconvenient at best.[break][break]
So inconvenient in fact that even a sped-up Hyperion couldn't completely dodge that incoming kick on time. Figures, he'd just have to shift gears to deal with the sudden momentum shift.[break][break]
"Choke it hard!" Zernebog instead called out even as Hyperion tried to sidestep the kick.[break][break]
Hyperion grimaced but nodded as he turned his body just enough so that the needles from the leg glanced over but the kick still hit the side of his head, making it snap back. That definitely hurt, but that put his tail upon the perfect position, burst into massive white twisting flames headed right at the thing right as it kicked him on the jaw, in order to tryand get t. The size and speed was also swelled by the shining sun and the howling wind, making it look akin to a hungry devouring beast.[break][break]
If it hit the target, the twisting flames would linger on as a tight vortex that would slowly begin to suck away oxygen and even the howling wind as it lingered. If not, it would simply serve as a marvelous distraction for his next move.[break][break]
The debris underneath their feet started churning, old and new, sounding like an earthquake as Hyperion used the kick's impetus and the motion of the rocks to turn around and get some breathing room, all the while graceful enough to avoid the spikes that weren't destroyed or covered up. This was to both get away to reposition himself better and to suddenly create pillars of rock that quickly went down to crash into waves at the Budew and Nidoran, pushed along by the wind. The rocks appeared to be trying to envelop them to crush them like a vice.[break][break]
[attr="class","heroesgymthing"] USED FIRE SPIN // USED ROCK SLIDE[break] Vortex attack on Tiny![break] AoE attack on Toxic Spikes, Tiny and Arannis![break] Dragon Dance x 2 Stack, Sun-Boosted Fire Spin
Dahlia was prepared to give a defense of Aramis and state his matching preparedness, but held her tongue. She knew it wouldn't be true; Dahlia knew better than anyone the disposition of her current prodigal star. The Budew was no fighting champion, and lacked a certain je ne sais quoi required for those that participated in the hardships of the League circuit and related activities. All Pokemon could battle, anyone with a drop of formal training in the field knew that; but not all Pokemon battle equally. [break][break]
It was clear that of the four on the field, Aramis was the odd one out. [break][break]
Dahlia herself felt cordoned away from them by a social wall; the way that her two opponents so freely gave orders, with their own verbal cues and even an avoidance of the specifics of what was coming, showed experience she lacked. Her experience in battling Pokemon was formal; all classroom, nothing worldly or traveled. [break][break]
So it would be in flame and boulder that Aramis would fall; Dahlia hadn't the time to bark out an order, and even if she had, he wouldn't have had the time to properly act upon it. Fresh burns seemed to adorn him as a series of rocks shoved him back and into a tumble to leave him knocked out upon the field, face down without much protest. [break][break]
"Tch," Dahlia clicked her tongue and took in a short breath, composing herself. Disappointment was apparent, but not exuding. She could take this in stride, if it was just her alone, but Frederick relied upon her and she... well. She simply palmed her Luxury Ball and returned Aramis wordlessly, then nodded her head once. [break][break]
"Apologies. The ball is in your court." [break][break]
