The Pokemon League of Sinnoh Elite Academy Trainer graduates are the movers and shakers of the Pokemon World. Few gym leaders, Elites, and frontier brains have earned their position without a certification from an Elite Academy. After receiving your acceptance letter to Sinnoh Elite Academy, it’s your turn to be the very best, like no one ever was.
Elite Academy is a statless, literate Pokemon college role play. Students are limited to one Pokemon at the start and may gain more as they progress. We strive to create a literate, collaborative, creative environment where people respect one another and have fun.
MAY 26TH, 2019
We just wrapped up our first Activity Check! As we move forward, the Fall Festival event will be up a while longer. Anticipate some exciting changes coming soon. Thanks for sticking with us!
If you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions for the site, don't be afraid to send any of that to Fox or Lyro. We're always improving!
Reading this thread is not required; however, if you're stuck, it is a great resource to take your app to the next level.[break][break]
Creating Pokemon can be one of the most fun and the most challenging aspects of character creation on PLS-EAT-PKMN. This thread is to help expand on what you can do with Pokemon, moves, abilities, and custom moves. Below this post are examples of how creative you can get with your Pokemon.
The only limit to a Pokemon appearance is Pokemon cannot start with an extra limb. As result, you can definitely get really out there with how your Pokemon looks. Maybe you have a neon pink Larvitar, or a black as night Cottonee? Maybe your Pokemon has stripes or polka dots? Scars or missing limbs from previous battles, too? [break][break]
Pokemon can wear clothes, accessories, etc. just for fun, as well! These items won't function like in-game items, but they add a bit of fun to how your companion looks.[break][break]
Custom Sprites are welcomed, and some members make them for fun, so don't be afraid to ask around for one if you have something in mind.
BIOGRAPHIES
[attr="class","eapcon2"]
Pokemon are shown to have individual personalities, histories, and goals throughout the Pokemon canon. To get the most out of your companion, treat your Pokemon like another character. [break][break]
The following are just a few questions to help jump-start your Pokemon creation:[break][break]
What are their likes and dislikes?
[break][break]
Do they have a hobby outside of battling?
[break][break]
Do they prefer a certain kind of food?
[break][break]
Were they born in captivity?
[break][break]
How well do they listen to their trainer?
[break][break]
Do they have any favorite games to play?
[break][break]
Why do they stick around?
[break][break]
How do they feel about their Pokeball?
[break][break]
Do they get along well with other Pokemon?
[break][break]
Abilities
[attr="class","eapcon"]
Abilities are a little more limited than moves. They must be an ability the Pokemon can use as of Generation 7 and Hidden Abilities are acceptable. [break][break]
An important thing to keep in mind when picking your Abilities is that they tend to be more passive and apply more to your average role play post. So when picking your ability, think about how it'll affect interactions in the future as well as their battles - if you plan to battle. [break][break]
Random examples include... Does your Pokemon's Static make your hair frizzy all the time? Does your Pokemon's Pick Up result in you finding some fast cash while walking to class? Do you need to wear special gloves when picking up your Pokemon with Poison Point? Does your Pokemon's ability only activate during battles like a defensive mechanism, or is it something to be wary of all the time?
MOVE POOLS
[attr="class","eapcon"]
MOVE SELECTION PROMPTS
[attr="class","eapcon2"] There are over 600 Pokemon Moves available, making selecting a move pool a daunting task. Here are a few ways to get started on a Pokemon's Moveset... [break][break]
Role Do you want to be an all-out attacker, a tank, a healer, a fast damage-dealer, or something else? Pick Moves that suit your Pokemon's intended role in battle.
[break][break]
Theme Want to be a dancer? A laser beam-shooter? Maybe your Pokemon was inspired by scary stories, or fairy tales. Pick Moves that follow a certain theme.
[break][break]
Chaos Wouldn't it be cool to have a Machop that knows Mirror Move? Pick an idea and work backwards from there.
[break][break]
Background Maybe your Pokemon comes from the woods, so they need Moves that aid their survival. Or maybe your Pokemon started out on the streets and needed to be sneaky to steal food to survive. Start with the bio and work backwards from there.
[break][break]
NONSTANDARD MOVES
[attr="class","eapcon2"]
Nonstandard Moves are what set your Pokemon apart from the pack. It can turn a Pokemon with a narrow move pool, like Magikarp, into a specialized, entirely combat viable beast. Keep in mind that a Nonstandard Move still needs to make sense on the Pokemon. The reasons for your Pokemon knowing Nonstandard Moves can range from serious struggles to silly accidents.[break][break]
An example of an acceptable explanation for gaining a Nonstandard Move is through Mutation. Perhaps a Pokemon has a certain gland that enables them to produce a certain element like a Magikarp that breathes fire so they know Flamethrower or a Magikarp that dribbles a mild poison from their mouth and can spit Toxic. Quirks of biology are a great way to explain how a Pokemon would use an otherwise nonsensical Nonstandard Move.[break][break]
Another example is maybe your Pokemon's life style resulted in them learning a Nonstandard Move. IE, maybe your Magikarp had to travel upstream a lot in the wild, and learned Waterfall or Surf to navigate the wild waters and rapids.[break][break]
Their personality could inspire moves, as well! Maybe your Magikarp has a temper and vented it through smashing rocks all the time, resulting in them learning Rock Smash. [break][break]
Or just for hilarity's sake, you physically throw your Magikarp at the enemy and that's how your Magikarp uses Flying Press.
Custom Moves
[attr="class","eapcon2"]
Custom Moves represent the hard work you and your Pokemon have gone through. They can only be attained by Pokemon who have made a special bond with their trainer. A Custom Move can be offensive, defensive, restorative, or status-inflicting in nature, or any reasonable combination thereof. As they are unique to each individual Pokemon, we allow Custom Moves to be more powerful than your average Move, so long as they are not autohits, autododges, or consequence-/condition-less HP full restores. [break][break]
Some example Custom Moves can be found below: [break][break]
Name: Mud Bath[break] For: Quagsire[break] Type: Ground[break] Description: Mud spews from Quagsire's pores, completely coating himself. It quickly hardens into an armor-like substance. While still flexible enough to move in, the Mud Bath absorbs damage from the next 1-3 incoming Moves (depending on strength/type advantage). A Water-, Ice-, or Grass-type Move blasts the Mud Bath apart in one hit.
[break][break]
Name: Vault[break] For: Sentret[break] Type: Flying[break] Description: Sentret has spent countless hours training with their gymnast trainer, to the point they have become something of an acrobat themselves. Sentret uses their stiff tail to vault themselves high into the air. They can slow or speed up their descent by stretching out their flappy little arms, but cannot remain in the air for longer than one post. Upon crashing down, they stick the landing.
[break][break]
Name: Freezerburn[break] For: Snorunt[break] Type: Fire[break] Description: Since swallowing a Fire Stone at the behest of their trainer, Snorunt has acquired some... interesting techniques. They can spray a stream of freezing, icy-blue fire at their opponent that causes frost to spread from the point of contact. If the opponent is Fire-type, they may become chilly and sluggish; otherwise, the attack will feel like a nasty burn.[break]
Descriptions
[attr="class","eapcon2"]
Firstly, it's important to keep in mind that your descriptions don't have to be super detailed or really long! As long as you get the idea across and cover a few simple bases, you're set to go. [break][break]
A good description includes what the Move looks like, where it originates from on the Pokemon - or in the environment, and what affect it has on the user/opponent. It's some lovely flavor text inspired by the move's official descriptions that you can find on Bulbapedia. The look, feel, etc. of the move is ultimately decided by you as long as you keep the "Spirit" of the move in mind while creating it. [break][break]
For moves that affect the environment, like Weather Related moves, you should explain how your companion just screwed over the weatherman's forecast. In example, think about a move like Sunny Day! Does a Pokemon create it's own mini-sun that heats up the environment? Where does that little sun come from? Their mouth? Their heart? Or does it intensify the power of the actual sun's rays with it's mind? What does the environment look like after they've done this? Is it really gosh darn hot and bright? [break][break]
Moves with beams of light, energy, or elements need a source of origin for those crazy things! Does it come from the Pokemon's eyes? Mouth? Heart? [break][break]
Does your Pokemon radiate light or energy when using Psychic moves? Does the light have a specific color? Does that color mean anything? [break][break]
For moves based on a Pokemon's general Charisma, like Intimidate or Swagger, are the effects a result of your Pokemon's attitude problems? Or are they radiating a powerful aura that effects the emotions or Pokemon around them?
Nobunaga spins his body as he performs a flurry of rapid but precise strikes, pursuing the opponent where every they may flee to. With the burst of speed utilized for this technique there are few pokemon that can get away completely unscathed. This fast and dangerous move that leaves the user dizzy and confused for the next round.
ABILITY
[attr="class","plist"]
Guts
When Nobunaga can feel some sort of ailment, such as poison, burns or paralysis, starting to take a toll on his body his bushido spirit starts to come out in full force. In times like this he becomes strangely empowered, greatly increasing the force he puts into each attack.
[attr="class","plist2"]
Dual Chop
Dragon
Nobunaga's charges his katanas with draconic energy, which manifests itself as a dark blue aura before performing a pair of slashes. The attacks come out in a rapid succession, but if he delays the slashes for moment he has just enough time to quickly reposition himself before the energy fades.
[break][break]
Cross Chop
Fighting
A heavy swing in which all four blades are swung simultaneously, each one in an X formation. The attack strikes multiple angles simultaneously, making it much more likely to strike a vital or otherwise weak point on the target. When it does the damage it deals is significantly more devastating.
[break][break]
Sacred Sword
Fighting
All four of his blades are brought together in front of him, at which point all four arms start channeling energy into the weapons to form a single blade of pure white energy. The energy that makes up the blade is capable of passing through any sort of techniques one may have used to increase their evasiveness or defenses, but is still ultimately stopped by barrier techniques.
[break][break]
Flash Cannon
Steel
Nobunaga holds his blades up to the light, absorbing the ambiant energy into his blades. He then releases the energy from all four blades at once in a single beam of light. There's a chance that the beam will pierce the target's defenses and lower their resistance to similar techniques.
[break][break]
Double Team
Normal
After performing what could only be described as a bizarre sword dance followed by a flash of light Nobunaga creates a pair of illusions identical to himself. When he does this he is able to swap positions with one of the duplicates, making it more difficult to tell which is the real one. Luckily the fakes will dissipate the moment something disrupts their forms.
[break][break]
Detect
Fighting
Nobunaga focuses completely on watching and predicting his opponent's next move he is able to completely negate the attack with either a swift dodge or a well timed parry. Unfortunately he's not as quick as he used to be, making it difficult for him to perform such death defying maneuvers in rapid succession.
[attr="class","ahist"] The Bushido Way
[attr="class","afform"]
Nobunaga was always a strange one ever since he was nothing but a baby machop in the home of his master, a member of the ninja clan in Fuchsia City. They attempted to train him in martial arts, but he never seemed to take well to hand to hand combat. It wasn't until he climbed his way up to grab a katana mounted on the wall that his calling was discovered. The small fighter took to the way of the blade well, swinging it with grace and ease much to the surprise of his master. The man took great interest in his pokemon's progress from this point on, doing everything he could to help them develop a unique style fitting of it's talents.[break][break]
He started off with one blade, eventually learning to handle two once he evolved into a machamp. It was at that point that his skills reached a point to where he was appointed as the primary guardian of his master's estate. It was a solitary job that was largely uneventful, save for the occasional rival ninjas that sought to infiltrate and recover one of the master's treasures. As time went on and his training progressed he would eventually grow into a loyal and honorable machamp and gain mastery over wielding four blades simultaneously.[break][break]
Unfortunately his master was an elderly man, one which Nobunaga always knew he would outlive. Yet even as he passed he remained loyaly on watch over the man's estate until an old friend and familiar face came to visit to pay his respects. The man offered not only his condolences, but also a new purpose for the samurai. He suggested that he accompany him back to a university in Sinnoh where he may put his techniques to practice in helping to shape and teach young pokemon how to be just and honorable fighters. Knowing full well that his master would want him to move on with his life and pass the wisdom he had earned on Nobu accepted the offer. To this day he watches over the Sinnoh Elite Academy and the pokemon who call it home, encouraging them to pursue their own path and develop their own techniques rather than doing what is expected of them.[break][break]
Thanks to his many years spent with Headmaster Shigetaka, Grumbles has become adept in the art of lecturing. By rambling on about how disappointed he is in the other Pokemon, Grumbles puts them to sleep. Grumbles' opponent can remain asleep as long as he continues to put all his efforts into lecturing, but after three consecutive uses, he becomes winded and must regain his breath.
ABILITY
[attr="class","plist"]
Pickup
Grumbles has a habit of just... finding loose objects. He stuffs them into his fat folds fur for safe keeping.
[attr="class","plist2"]
Thief
Dark
Grumbles reaches out and swipes at the opponent with his claws. If his opponent is holding an item, such as a piece of food or a clipboard, he steals that, too.
[break][break]
Fling
Dark
Grumbles grabs an object from his fur and chucks it at his opponent with all his might. This can be anything from a half-eaten berry, to a paperweight, to somebody's high heel.
[break][break]
Lick
Ghost
Grumbles' tongue elongates to a disturbing degree and makes a long, slobbery swipe up his opponent's face. Due to the sheer disgusting nature of the attack, sometimes Pokemon find themselves being paralyzed by fear.
[break][break]
Belch
Poison
Grumbles burps noxious gas into the opponent's face. He can only use this damaging attack if he has eaten recently.
[break][break]
Self-Destruct
Normal
Grumbles musters all of the hidden potential inside of him to unleash it all in a last-ditch attack. After glowing white-hot, he explodes, creating a big enough blast to make a crater in the average battlefield. He survives, of course; the explosion just tuckers him out and makes him faint.
[break][break]
Metronome
Normal
By wiggling his finger in the air, Grumbles summons forth all the chaotic energy he can muster. A random attack spills forth from the tip of his finger.
Tyson unleashes a flurry of powerful punches on a specific part of the target's body. Not only does this deal serious damage, it leaves the targeted location sore and tender, making any further attacks to the area more painful and damaging. It may even leave cracks in a pokemon's shell or exoskeleton.
ABILITY
[attr="class","plist"]
Trace
By analyzing his opponent and cloaking himself in a peculiar psychic aura Tyson is able to mimic whatever unique physical traits his opponent may have. He can use this to do anything from create a barrier that absorbs all water to strengthen himself or make him sticky and start picking up random nearby objects.
[attr="class","plist2"]
Thunder Punch
Electric
Tyson charges his fist with electrical energy before delivering a punch to his opponent. The strike has a significant electrical charge to it, carrying enough electricity to potentially paralyze whoever is on the receiving end.
[break][break]
Ice Punch
Ice
A fist is coated in an icey energy cold enough to freeze the air around it. The sub-zero punch is so cold that it could even cause whatever part of the body is struck to become encased in ice. Or, if you're really unlucky, their entire body .
[break][break]
Fire Punch
Fire
A punch delivered by a literal fist of fire. The flaming strike is burning hot, capable of incinerating whatever is in it's path. If it makes contact with a pokemon it could even leave a serious burn behind.
[break][break]
Zen Headbutt
Psychic
Tyson protects his body with a hard barrier of psychic energy before delivering a forceful headbutt to the target. This brutal attack often catches pokemon off guard, and could even cause them to flinch from the sudden and violent impact.
[break][break]
Close Combat
Fighting
An all out assault unleashed without concern for their own safety. Tyson gets in close with his opponent and unleashes a brutal combination of punches while sacrificing his defenses and leaving himself open for a counter attack. Perhaps that's why he puts everything he has into the attack, as he hopes to finish off his opponent before they get a chance to retaliate.
[break][break]
Bulk Up
Fighting
A technique learned in Tyson's quest to become the strongest pokemon he could be. Tyson gathers his mental energy and fighting spirit into his muscles, causing them to become considerably more bulky. Doing this increases the strength of his attacks, while the extra density of his muscles increases his resistance to physical attacks.
[attr="class","ahist"] Float Like a Fairy...
[attr="class","afform"]
Born and raised at the Sinnoh Elite Academy, Tyson was one of the countless pokemon that had been prepared for the students to take on as part of their training. Like most male ralts, he eagerly looked forward to the day that he would become a gallade. He knew that one day one of the students was going to take him under their wing and guide him down the path of becoming a true warrior of justice. The girl that wound up taking him in was strange to say the least. Very frilly, definitely not the type of person you wouldn't expect to see with a gallade. Even went so far as to give him the name Meredith, which while he was assured was very much a male name didn't quite bode well for what was to come.[break][break]
As he grew and evolved into his next form 'Meredith' would wait for the day he received his dawn stone with great anticipation. But as time went on there would be no stone in sight, a concern that would slowly grow to overtake the excitement. He didn't realize what his trainer's intent was for him until it was too late. She put him in an intense battle against one of the instructors that pushed him to his limits. In the heat of the moment he unleashed his full power, evolving mid fight to deliver a powerful blow to his opponent. Immediately he realized the mistake he had made. He wasn't the gallade that he always dreamed he could be, he was a gardevoir.[break][break]
From that day on he didn't feel right in his body. He knew that being a gardevoir was natural, but after years of build up it just felt like a let down. He craved quick intensity of a close quarters battle, yet his trainer insisted on training him to be an evasive ranged fighter. But after she failed her first exam and eventually vanished from the school he was finally free to pursue his own course. While he waited for the academy to find a home for him he would start training his body, doing whatever he could to reject his frail body and build himself into the fighter he always dreamed of.[break][break]
It didn't take long for Kentaro Kawaguchi, the school's physical conditioning professor, to take note of this. Without hesitation he took the pokemon in as his own, hoping to use him as an example of what could be done if a person or pokemon had enough determination and motivation. He gave Meredith a new name and expertly guided him onto the path of power. Over the years Tyson would grow in strength until his strength surpassed anything one could ever imagine from a gardevoir. To this day he relishes any opportunity to test his might against man and pokemon alike.[break][break]
