Participants are expected to abide by all Sanctioned Battle Rules. [break][break] Your battle takes place on a clay battlefield roughly the size of a tennis court. Trainers are not to step onto the battlefield and Pokemon are not to step out for any reason. Your win conditions are to knock the opposing Pokemon unconscious. In this case, a ring out--knocking your opponent out of the battlefield's boundaries--counts as a draw. [break][break] The posting order is Layla Bygrave and then Jun Hoshido . Do not use any Moves until the second posting round. [break][break]

The day was a visual marvel. Autumn trees of red, orange and yellow came to mind, as Layla prepared for the day. It would be a rather breezy, carefree day, with only one event in mind; one of the reasons she was even in Pearl. A match, 1v1 in one of the academy’s numerous battlefields. Despite that, she slept through the five various alarm clocks she had. Not alarms. Alarm clocks. The girl was a heavy sleeper and disorganized to boot.
She’d totally make it on time.
Pokemon on shoulder, a uniform not quite worn properly and a broad grin on her face, the battlefield was immense. So neat, so well maintained. She’d never battled on clay of all things; most arenas she’d frequented went for classic dirt or rock. This was nice. The adorable fluffball bounced off of Layla’s shoulder, to a cradling hand, followed by a quick plummet to the clay ground. Bobbing along, she arrived at the starting position; half-way between Layla and the middle of the field. Then, she began the traditional battle prep; a bounce and a twirl, a bounce and a twirl, then a summersault. The cottonee was ready; primed to open up how she always did.
It’d be a good day if she won, but a great day even if she lost; there’s always something more to learn, but she really hoped she didn't make the other trainer wait. She did arrive on time, right?
If there was one thing that his parents taught Jun well, it was to always arrive on time for an event or appointment. Even if it was a few minutes earlier, it was better to be early than late. So here he was, 10 minutes early to the first battle of the day. A day prior, a Pearl class had asked students in other colleges if they'd like to participate in today's battle class. Despite being in the Platinum class, Jun saw this as a learning opportunity and agreed to a traditional battle. He wanted to take the opportunity to see how well he could still battle and apply some flare to his battle style. Well, if the opponent would show up that is. [break][break] Jun was on the far side of the arena, checking his phone for the time. His uniform was clean cut, except for his shoulder, which was where Nightwing was perched. She clung lightly to Jun, her feet messing up the uniform ever so slightly. Her eyes were glued to the entrance. She was eager for a battle it seemed. An excited chirp alerted Jun and he glanced up to see the other Trainer was just rounding the corner. [break][break] He placed his phone away and let Nightwing off, looking up to greet the other. She seemed excited, as did her Cottonee. Before the battle began, Jun introduced himself with a quick nod to the other Trainer. "Good morning, I'll be your opponent for today. Jun Hoshido from the school of Platinum, a pleasure to meet you." Nightwing chirped in greeting too, making her way down to the battle field and looking the Cottonee in the eyes. [break][break] Once the Trainers and Pokemon were in place, the referee blew the whistle and the battle had begun!
"Layla Bygrave, nice to meet you!" a polite wave springing forth as her cottonee made its way onto the field. Her opponent, who seemed polite as can be, wasn't too peeved about her lateness, and he had a noibat! She wouldn't use one as a trainer, she was spoken but she couldn't deny how cute they were. It also meant that, from memory, it'd be a rather even match when it came down to typings. This'd be fun, if Jun was a good sport. "Hope it's a fun match!" calling out to the other side of the field.
A whistle sounded.
The match had begun, and Layla was quick on the draw. Her voice loud, he called out "Fluffee, use Sunny Day!" The fluffball responded immediately, as a bright, golden light erupted from the cottonee's body. Launching up into the sky like a firework, far above the battlefield, it drew attention immediately. Assuming the ball of cotton could pull it off, it would grow into a golden lens above them, magnifying the sun's rays on the field, boosting her speed immensely. Keen eyes might even be able to see the way the cotton flowed on Fluffee.
"Fluffee, dodge!" She figured that Sunny Day would leave Fluffee open for a second, enough time for a pokemon with ranged abilities to let off a move. With Sunny Day, however, Fluffee would easily be able to move out of the way of most traditional moves with ease. At the earliest possible move, the cottonball would bounce off to the left, hopefully moving out of the way of any potential offensive action against her. "You've got this..." was whispered under her breath. - - - 1st Action - Sunny Day. Used immediately, and if successful, will boost Fluffee's speed. 2nd Action - Dodged, right after finishing Sunny Day, anticipating an attack during Sunny Day. Jun Hoshido
[break] Nightwing used Flash Cannon! It missed![break][break] Nightwing used Hurricane!
Jun's opponent seemed to be revved up for the fight. He cracked a smile and shook his head. It had been a while since his opponent was so energetic. "Best of luck, Layla." [break][break] Layla's Cottonee started the battle off strong, using Sunny Day and intensifying the sun. He could feel the heat radiating down on them, Nightwing rolled her shoulders and jumped up a few feet into the air, hovering as the Cottonee adjusted the weather. This was a good opportunity for Nightwing. "Flash Cannon, quick."
[break][break]The Noibat chirped in response and flew a few more feet into the air. Light flickered around her and gathered around a sphere of energy at the tip of her nose. Then, Nightwing dipped down and started into a nose dive towards the Contonee. When she was presumably close, the sphere was released and exploded in a blast of blinding light. In that time, the Contonee had bounced away, making the Flash Cannon whiff and strike the ground instead. [break][break] Not bad was Jun's first thought. Even though he was in the Platinum school, Jun didn't forget about his time at the Battle Chateau. Time to put that experience into practice! There was one move that Jun could think of that covered decent ground, it was risky and hard to hit, but if it did then it'd be large advantage. "Hurricane, go!" [break][break] Nightwing nodded and zipped towards the Contonee at high speeds. She swerved at the last second, suddenly circling the Cottonee. The air started to form around her wings, following her in the air and quickly formed into a vortex. The hurricane was unstable and wild, picking up what debris it could off the ground. Possibly including the Cottonee too. Nightwing flew away from the vortex, looking around to see if she was successful.
That was too close, by anyone's standards. 'Flash Cannon,' a move that is awesome by any stretch of the imagination, and was something that could put Fluffee down if hit at point-blank. She'd have to geek out about that Noibat later, especially since it was charging enough up another move. Thank Arceus Fluffee had the speed of a Sceptile, if not just beyond that thanks to the sunlight around her. "Fluffee, get out of its way!" cried an exuberant Layla, the other trainer knowing not to use their pokemon's dragon typing on her grassy girl. "Cotcot!" responded the fluffy critter, dashing out of the way with ease and grace through the wall of the storm; the sun being the fuel of her speed. The hurricane formed, while impressive, hopefully, missed its mark; it was renown for its inaccuracy, and Fluffee was like greased lightning.
Hopefully, with Fluffee out of harm's way, and with the opposing pokemon searching, she had an opening to play the final piece in her set-up. "Flufee, use Growth!" An odd move, 'Growth' increased Fluffee's size and footprint, and attack power accordingly. Oddly enough, despite being a normal type move, its power is doubled in the presence of great sunlight, granting Fluffee a larger size, and a dominant offensive capability usually not present to Cottonee. Hidden initially in the chaos of the hurricane, her bouncing became intensely audible for a moment, before returning to a softer level. The Noibat had to have heard it; those large ears had to have a purpose, right?
She was ready to unleash anything; a super-effective move would be insurmountable now, potentially even knocking out an unprepared pokemon in one strike.

OOC: Action #1: Attempted to dodge Hurricane. Hurricane isn't particularly accurate, and Fluffee's speed is doubled.
Action #2: Used Growth while the opposing pokemon was searching for them. The noise of the move will allow them to find them quickly.
[break] Nightwing used Supersonic! [break][break] Nightwing used Hyper Voice!
The Cottonee was much more agile than Jun gave it credit for. The sunlight was boosting it's speed by a considerable amount. The hurricane, while unstable, was a large vortex of crazy wind. The Cottonee was able to zip out of the way. The hurricane disintegrated before it could do further harm to the field or trainers, leaving the Cottonee in plain sight. On top of the Pokemon's growth it wasn't hard to spot. Nightwing's ears twitched and her head snapped towards the Cottonee. Got'cha! [break][break] A direct attack didn't seem to be working. It was time to switch gears. "Nightwing, use Supersonic! Let's see if the Cottonee can keep dodging while it's head is spinning." Jun said. The small Pokemon was quite agile but if it's head was spinning and it was confused, could it keep up? Nightwing dived in towards the Cottonee, stopping right above her and she took a deep breath. Then, a high pitch screech filled the air. The noise was disorientating, should the Cottonee hear it the effects were immediate. [break][break] "Quick, Hyper Voice too!" [break][break] The Noibat swerved backwards, putting distance between her and the other Pokemon. Another deep breath and screech filled the air. This time instead of a high pitch screech this was just a loud, booming voice. The Hyper Voice had a lot of force put behind it, it could probably pin the Cottonee to the ground if it hit. Both Pokemon seemed to be on a even level, but hopefully the sound based moves could put Nightwing at an advantage.
So, uh… The hurricane wasn’t a great a cover as she had planned. At all. Her precious Cottonee was exposed and wide open, and the loud slams of Growth just making the situation worse. Quick thinking had to be employed, or else Fluffee would not be in a good place. Thankfully, she had a solution. Something that would at least give Fluffee a moment’s breathing room. “Fluffee, solar beam the ground!” Solar Beam- the Kamehameha of the grass Pokémon. A move of immense power, but with an incredible drawback. However, with the mighty Sunny Day above her, Fluffee had no reason to be concerned. A bright, golden orb formed in front of her mouth, before immediately being fired at the ground, at the mid-point between the two Pokémon, her cotton on end from the power of the move.
Solar Beam by itself was a loud attack; worthy of its power. The launching of such an immense amount of solar energy was an avalanche of sound in itself, but the collision with the clay turned it into an orchestra’s worth of noise, blocking out Supersonic, preventing the fluffball from being confused. It would, as a bonus, perhaps throw the Noibat off its game too. Large chunks of clay would be flying out at speed in all directions, including at the Noibat. Maybe they’d be substantial pieces, perhaps nothing would go its way, but no matter what, as soon the beam of golden light faded, the dust would obscure the cottonee from sight.
As a follow-up, Layla called out one more command; “Fluffee, get ‘em while you can! Use Moonblast!” A rippling ball of pink lunar energy would form, much in the same fashion as Solar Beam, as the image of the moon appeared above the cottonee, and conversely the arena. She launched it as where she imagined the flying pokemon to be, as the moon disappeared, and a blue light surrounded Fluffee. It would be something that the Noibat would have to be afraid of.
That is, if Hyper Voice somehow failed.
However, it didn't. A grand sound rang out across the arena, hitting and pinning Fluffee to the ground and cancelling the Moonblast, earning a cry from the fluffball. Hopefully, they'd be able to break out of this one.
--- OOC: #1 Fluffee used Solar Beam on the ground! It's loud enough to drown out Supersonic, and the impact with the arena improves the chances of that happening. Dust is kicked up, and maybe some of the larger pieces of displaced clay fly towards the Noibat.
#2 Hit! Fluffee is pinned! Hoping to escape before anything else happens. Jun Hoshido
